Opaque Watersoluble Paint
Gouache paint is considered an opaque watercolour. Gouache has a velvety smooth, matte finish. It can be used in conjunction with other water-based media such as acrylic, transparent watercolor, ink, and markers, as well as the dry media of pastels and color pencil. Gouache is different than acrylics in that it allows the blending of already dried colors by reworking it with a soft, damp brush. Acrylic Gouache moves, reacts, blends and feels like traditional gum arabic gouache, but is water resistance once dry.
Gouache has quick coverage and lends itself to more direct painting techniques than watercolor. It is commonly used by commercial artists for works such as posters, illustrations, comics, and for other design work.
