Sekishu Banshi Tsuru is made using 100% Japanese kozo, with the slight inclusion of a green layer of its bark. The fibre is cooked in soda ash, unbleached, and machine-beaten. Very strong and absorbent paper. Technique for making Sekishu washi designated by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and by Japan as an Intangible Cultural Property. One of the oldest continuously made papers in Japan, made in the Sekishu area, now called Shimane prefecture. Don’t confuse this quality washi with others called “Sekishu” that aren't made with 100% kozo or made in different areas. Although this washi is traditionally used for brush writing, it is also excellent for conservation uses, all forms of printmaking, and dyeing. Heritage Washi (HW), Also as known as Sekishu Tsuru.
