Washi is Japanese paper processed by hand and made in the traditional manner using fibers from the inner bark of the gampi tree, the mitsumata or the paper mulberry (kōzo) bush.
“Rice paper" is named as a wrapper for rice and is made from bark fibres of the paper mulberry tree. Rice paper is a common term when referring to Washi paper.
Like Cotton rag papers, Washi paper comes in different weights, textures and sizing and so the pricepoint of Washi paper will vary as well.
